We have standards!
Because “to code” is the legal minimum requirement for a building, let us introduce you to our favourite three standards:
The “Minimum” standard: Step Code 5, Net-Zero Ready
This will be the lowest legal (energy efficiency) standard in ten years’ time. We’re doing it now, so that your building will retain it’s value and have lower operating costs and greater occupant comfort.
The “Bauphysik recommends”:
Consider this a value-engineered “nearly” Passive House, where some practical decisions are made to reduce costs while keeping performance high.
The Passive House:
For the bold, the watt-counters, the experimenters, or…those who simply need a healthy home which will keep it’s value for decades to come. A passive house uses 5 to 10% of the heating/cooling energy of a new standard construction. (Yes, we know about PH Classic, Plus, and Premium).
